Lestat makes Louis into a vampire, his immortal companion in 1791, and lives with Louis for nearly 70 years. However, Lestat is damaged from his experiences in France and the Old World. He is not as gentle a tutor or as much of a friend as Louis would like, one of the central themes in Interview with the Vampire.
It certainly pained Lestat very much that Louis thought of him as an uncaring and evil. Lestat is someone who not only cares and feels, he’s always felt and cared too much. So Louis’ complete misunderstanding of him hurt Lestat very much.
Louis and Lestat are reunited at the end of the novel The Vampire Lestat in 1985 when Lestat is a rock superstar. In the events of The Queen Of The Damned, Louis and other vampires come together at Maharet ‘s house in the Sonoma Compound to fight against Akasha .
So the age difference could play a part in how they react to being a vampire. Maybe when Louis reaches Lestat’s age, he may change his views of being a vampire. Louis and Lestat also represent two different extremes of being a vampire. We have one who only sees the bad in it, and the one who overindulges himself in the vampire privileges.
Who did Lestat attack in Interview with the Vampire?
Lestat returned at the end of Interview with the Vampire, where he attacked reporter Daniel Molloy (Christian Slater) after his meeting with Louis and gave him “the choice that he never had”. Why did Lestat leave Louis?
Louis warned Lestat against switching bodies with this man because it could be very dangerous for someone to have control over Lestat’s body and if anything were to go wrong Lestat would be helpless. Lestat left Louis and ignored this advice.
They went to New Orleans where Lestat resumed his merciless killing and Louis tried to avoid killing humans until one night when he attacked a little girl and left her for dead. Lestat told him that she wasn’t dead yet and Lestat soon made the child into a vampire whom Lestat named Claudia . Claudia was there to keep the peace between Lestat and Louis for a long time and she learned from them both. That was until one day when she decided she wanted to leave Lestat and look for other vampires like Louis and herself. Louis agreed that he would like to leave but deemed it impossible as Lestat would never let them go freely.

After Claudia was convinced Lestat was dead, she forced Louis to help her dispose of the body. They started arranging their departure for Europe. One night, however, Louis saw Lestat’s musician friend outside the window. Louis also noticed he was now a vampire and it was long until Lestat himself appeared.
The priest later informed Louis that what his brother had seen were visions sent from the devil, and that Paul had been possessed. Louis felt incredibly infuriated by this and attacked the priest, almost killing him. That night Lestat returned for Louis, he wanted Pointe du Lac, Louis’s plantation.
The process of Louis’ transformation went trough various steps. First, he was to watch the overseer of his plantation die by Lestat’s hand and approve. Even though Louis didn’t hold his life in high regard, he cared dearly for other people’s lives and was deeply sickened by the overseer’s death.
One day his brother and he discussed because of Paul’s ‘mission’. After the discussion, Paul left Louis and fell off the entrance’s stairs. The slaves who saw him fall “said that he had looked up as if he had just seen something in the air. Then his entire body moved forward as if being swept by a wind”, one of them said that he looked as if he was about to say something before he fell.
Louis is pronounced similarly to ‘Louie‘ as his French heritage dictates that the name is pronounced with the last letter silent.
Where did Lestat live?
His full backstory is explored in The Vampire Lestat (1985), which follows Lestat’s exploits from his youth in the Auvergne region of France to his early years as a vampire fledgling.
According to Rice, Lestat was largely inspired by her husband, the poet and artist Stan Rice; both have blond hair and they share November 7 as a birth date. Soon after Lestat is made into an immortal vampire, his maker commits suicide by throwing himself into a fire, leaving Lestat on his own with little knowledge of what he is and the powers he possesses. As his inheritance of being his only fledgling, Magnus left him riches of gold and other treasures to use as he wishes. With this money, Lestat bought the theatre where he performed and frequently sent money and gifts to Gabrielle and Nicki. He mostly avoids contact with Nicki and any other mortals he knew so they won’t discover his changed nature until one night at the theatre he frightens the audience with his preternatural abilities so much that he decides to shut the theatre down. Lestat hunts the streets of Paris and the surrounding villages, learning as he goes, while occasionally sensing an unknown menacing “presence”, which he chooses to ignore for the most part.
Gabrielle and Lestat travel together for a total of 10 years but soon after leaving Paris Gabrielle starts leaving Lestat on his own for months at a time. Gabrielle conceals a letter from Paris telling Lestat that his family has all died save his father who waits for him in New Orleans.
Here Lestat is told the story of how Armand came to be what he is and after the story, Lestat becomes obsessed with the idea of Marius. Gabrielle manages to convince Armand to join the other vampires at the theatre and Lestat writes the first of his messages to Marius in stone, asking Marius to contact him in some way.
The Vampire Lestat is Lestat’s autobiography, following his exploits from his youth as a mortal in France, to his early years as a vampire fledgling.
With Claudia, Lestat manages to keep Louis with him. Lestat, Louis and Claudia remain together for 60 years until Claudia turns against him and attempts to murder him.
Then as they talk, Lestat learns that David isn’t at all ill like how he was when he was in his original body. In fact, David is very healthy. Lestat then reminds David of a conversation of theirs where Lestat told him of a dream of his involving David as a young man in the jungle.
