Tom Verlaine Wife; is Tom Verlaine Married? Meet Pat

Tom Verlaine, the iconic guitarist, singer, and frontman of the New York City band Television, passed away at the age of 73.

His passing was reported by Jesse Paris Smith, Patti Smith’s daughter, who stated that he passed away “after a brief illness”.

Verlaine, a New Jersey native named Thomas Miller, started off with the piano at a young age before switching to the saxophone after hearing a Stan Getz record.

He and his high school friend Richard Hell, who also had a love for music and poetry, moved to New York City separately. In 1972, they came together to form the band Neon Boys, which included Billy Ficca on drums, Richard Hell on bass, and Verlaine on guitar.

After a brief hiatus, the group reassembled in March 1973 under the name Television and added Richard Lloyd as a second guitarist.

In March 1974, they played their first show.

When Fred Smith replaced Hell in the band in 1975, they released their first single.

When the New York punk scene was just getting started, Verlaine dated the poet and singer Patti Smith. Before disbanding in July 1978, Television put out two albums, Marquee Moon and Adventure, to acclaim from critics and moderate sales.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends, who have been struggling with the loss of such an intelligent and compassionate individual.
