Sue Johanson was a sex educator who once said that being aroused is a lovely thing.
She gave audiences in Canada and the US candid counsel for more than two decades before passing away at the age of 93.
With her direct advice to Canadians on her radio and TV program Sunday Night Sex Show – and then Americans on her Talk Sex program – Johanson garnered a global following.
She passed away in a Thornhill, Ontario, long-term care facility.
Johanson’s passing was announced on Thursday by Lisa Rideout, the filmmaker of the Sex With Sue documentary about her due out in 2022.
Rideout paid tribute to Johanson by describing her as “an incredible, unstoppable force” who “paved the way for how we talk about sex and sexuality today” in an Instagram post.

Johanson graduated as a registered nurse from nursing school at Winnipeg’s St. Boniface Hospital. She soon wed Ejnor Johanson, a Swedish-Canadian electrician, in 1953. The three kids they had were named Carol, Eric, and Jane. After the relocation, the family settled in North York, where Johanson raised her kids.
