“Steven Giles Obituary: Remembering a Former Harrisburg Stake President”
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Steven Giles, a respected former president of the Harrisburg Pennsylvania Stake. The news of his passing has deeply saddened us all. The current president of the stake, Rhett Hintze, shared the following message with members of the Harrisburg Stake:
“We share in your sorrow over the loss of Steven Giles, who passed away at his home in the early hours of the morning.”
The Giles family is grateful for the love and prayers extended by the entire stake. During this difficult time, we kindly request that you leave a message if you need to contact us but also respect the family’s need for some much-needed alone time. Please continue to keep Steven and his family, especially his wife Gaylene and their three daughters, Tiffany, Briant, and Spencer, in your thoughts and prayers. As a friend, neighbor, coworker, and church leader, Steven Giles made a lasting and positive impact on the lives of many, both within and beyond the Church.
Prior to his service as bishop of the Hershey Ward in Pennsylvania from 1992 to 1998, Steven Giles also served as a bishop in San Diego. His dedicated service continued as he was called to serve as stake president in 2009, a role he held until 2018, resulting in a total of 18 years of leadership within the stake, beginning with his appointment to the stake presidency in 2000.

Details regarding funeral and memorial services will be shared with the members of the stake once plans are finalized. As we strive to fulfill the principles of “bearing one another’s burdens, that they may be light;…and are willing to mourn with those that mourn;…and comfort those that stand in need of comfort” (Mosiah 18:8-9), we are grateful for your prayers and well-wishes on their behalf.
