The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has reported that a Florida man was killed by lightning while boating Sunday night.

FWC, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and Brevard County Fire Rescue responded to a call after hearing reports that a boat had been struck by lightning in the Indian River, roughly 50 miles southeast of Orlando.
Emergency personnel performed “life saving measures” on the boat operator, 39-year-old West Melbourne resident Peter Strong, but he was later pronounced dead. Minor injuries were sustained by one passenger, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
