A tragic accident in Norway took the life of a young, talented kayaker from Scotland.
The 20-year-old Robert Eggleston died from injuries he sustained while kayaking in the wilderness.
Sad news has emerged of the death in Norway of talented kayaker Robert Eggleston.
Who was Robert Eggleston?
Robert, originally from Perth, is believed to have been employed at a rafting center in Sjoa, located about 270 kilometers (170 miles) north of Oslo.
Robert has been lauded as “world renowned,” “adventurous,” and “incredibly talented,” among other superlatives.
Robert was a regular kayaker on the River Tummel in Scotland, and in his honor, the local whitewater community has erected a memorial.
“World renowned young Scottish white water paddler, Robert Eggleston, has died in a Norwegian hospital following a terrible kayaking accident on Wednesday, 3 August,” read a statement released by the Scottish Canoe Association.
Chile, Pakistan, Mexico, and Zambia were just a few of the places he saw on his travels.
Death came on August 3 for the former Abertay University student.
Robert went kayaking down rivers and waterfalls all over the world, including in Africa and South America.
In December of 2020, he was honored as the U21 Male Paddler of the Year for 2021.
The Scottish and international paddling communities, as well as Robert’s family and friends, will miss him dearly.
Robert’s sponsoring company, Waka Kayaks, made the following statement:
“Robert Eggleston passed away a few days ago doing what he loved. Being able to count on Robert as a member of our Waka team has been a blessing.
“A supremely skilled paddler who never loses his or her sense of adventure; someone who is widely admired and who enjoys every moment of life. So many people will miss you terribly. Greetings in the name of the universal language. So long and farewell.
