Hobert Flynn, 60, split her time between Middletown and Washington, D.C., where she and her husband, Rob Flynn, brought up four sons. She had spent more than three decades leading and advocating for democracy change.

The organization Common Cause, where she spent the last seven years as its national president and served for more than 25 years, announced her passing.

In 2005, Hobert Flynn served as the chairman of Common Cause Connecticut, a crucial member of a coalition that included the left-leaning grassroots organization Connecticut Citizen Action Group and Republican governor M. Jodi Rell.

Tom Swan, the CCAG leader, said, “Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a lot of great people, and I can’t think of anyone who was more dedicated or principled than Karen. She was intelligent, passionate, and entertaining.
