Joshua Bertrand, aged 39, left us on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10:21 a.m. in his residence. Born on October 13, 1983, in Jerseyville, Joshua was the son of the late Catherine Bertrand and stepfather Howard Greenlee of Alton. His memory is cherished by all who knew him.
At South Primary School in the Roxana School District, Joshua Bertrand dedicated himself to nurturing young minds as a devoted first-grade teacher. His passion for education and commitment to his students were evident in his every interaction. He also found time to contribute to Slotty’s in Alton, where he worked part-time.
Joshua leaves behind a legacy of love and care within his family. He is survived by his sister, Crystal Bertrand, and brother, Corey Greenlee. Three nephews, Christian Pollard of Bethalto, Ethan Pollard of Wood River, and Connor Bieneman of Wood River, fondly remember him. His grandparents, Delores “Faye” and Bob Geisen of Alton, along with numerous cousins, will forever cherish his memory.

Joshua Bertrand’s life was shaped by those who surrounded him. He was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Debbie and Bud Lewey, who raised him during his early years. His grandmother, Dora Johnson, and aunt Joella Kibodeaux of TX also passed before him. Their memory lives on in his heart.
Friends, family, and the community are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. While the burial will be private, Joshua’s memory will be celebrated by those who knew him.
