“Rules of Engagement” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones showed audiences intense military courtroom drama and the unbreakable bond that develops between two Marines in combat. But it didn’t get everything right.
Childers knows that his order to fire on the terrorists came only after his Marines were fired upon and therefore was within the Rules of Engagement, the rules governing the military’s use of deadly force.
“Rules of Engagement” is NOT “A Few Good Men.”. But it is also not the travesty that many reviews have made it out to be. The film was released in 2000, prior to the events of 9/11/2001 in New York City.
