Iga Swiatek began playing consistently on the WTA Tour in 2019, and she joined the top 50 at the age of 18 after reaching her first WTA final and reaching the fourth round of the 2019 French Open. Witek did not drop a set or lose more than five games in any singles match throughout her French Open victory run in 2020.

With the eventual retirement of world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, she took over as world No. 1 on April 4, 2022. She also received another award.

Witek prefers to play all around the court. She was named WTA Fan Favorite Singles Player of the Year in 2020 after winning the WTA Fan Favorite Shot of the Year in 2019 with a drop shot from the baseline.

In Miami, she also won another WTA 1000 championship, becoming the fourth woman to complete the Sunshine Double.

After winning the Italian Open in May 2021, she broke into the top ten of the WTA rankings for the first time. After winning back-to-back WTA 1000 championships in Qatar and Indian Wells in 2022, Witek attained a career-high ranking of No. 2 on March 21, 2022.
