It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of Michael Whitson, fondly known as “The Nerd,” who passed away on September 22, 2023, at the tender age of 33. Michael’s untimely departure has left us in profound grief and disbelief.

When the ambulance arrived on that fateful day, Michael had already lost a substantial amount of blood internally due to an unknown injury. Surgeons worked tirelessly to repair the damage, but, unfortunately, his liver was unable to produce the clotting factors necessary to stop the bleeding on its own. The dedicated doctors and nurses at the hospital fought relentlessly for over 30 hours, administering numerous pints of blood in an attempt to stabilize him and control the bleeding. Despite their tireless efforts, Michael’s body couldn’t withstand the severity of the situation, and he passed away at 5:31 PM.

Medical professionals suspect that Michael’s liver failure may have been the result of a hereditary autoimmune disease. In accordance with their guidance, the family plans to conduct an autopsy to closely examine Michael’s liver and body for markers that might shed light on the specific cause. This information could not only provide answers but also help prevent a similar fate for his beloved 4-year-old son, Graycen.

Michael’s final wishes were for his friends to release his ashes while making passes in their racecars, a testament to his lifelong passion for both his son and the world of racing.
