Bell was raised in the challenging high-rise apartments for the working class on Lambeth Walk after being born in Peckham, London. When he was ten years old, he entered talent competitions for caravan holidays, which was his first exposure to the entertainment world.
Bell got married, started a family, and ran a cleaning company until he was 28 years old, at which point he and his wife split up. At Morley College in Westminster, he made the decision to pursue acting, and at age 30, he graduated.
