Former Colts star and Super Bowl winner Fred Miller passed away at age 82.

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end and former Baltimore Colts star Fred Miller passed away on Sunday, Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, announced on social media. He was 82.

Irsay posted a message on Twitter in memory of Miller, an LSU graduate who was selected in the first round of the 1962 draft.

“FRED MILLER, #76, 10-year starting Tackle for the Baltimore Colts, rest in peace. A three-time Pro Bowl pick,” Isray wrote in his post.

Miller, a native of Louisiana, participated in the legendary Colts 27-0 shutout in the 1964 NFL title game against the Cleveland Browns.

Several years later, in Super Bowl III, the Colts would try to atone for their transgressions, but they would once more be defeated, this time by the New York Jets and future Hall of Fame QB Joe Namath.

In a 2009 interview with the Baltimore Sun, Miller said, “When we lost, we didn’t realize it would last forever.”

After the Colts overcame a seven-point deficit to begin the second half of Super Bowl V, Miller would ultimately become the game’s victor, defeating the Dallas Cowboys.

“That was among the toughest contests I’ve ever played. When I climbed out of bed the following morning for breakfast, I had a hard time raising my arms to cut my pancakes.
