A man from New Market was found dead in a lake after what seemed to be a drowning at Stoney Creek Resort in Greenville on Saturday night.
At 11:56 p.m., Dakota Marcus Fulk, 20, was found in a lake in Augusta County and was declared dead there. According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, there is no indication of wrongdoing.
At 6:52 p.m., a 911 call for assistance was received. Emergency response teams were sent from the Riverheads Fire Department, Staunton Fire Department, Stuarts Draft Rescue, and Augusta County Fire & Rescue.
At 7:05 p.m., emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
First responders were unable to find the male victim, who was said to be in the water. The victim was found and recovered with the help of the Virginia State Police Search and Recovery Team divers.
According to reports, Fulk visited the resort with his wife, family, and friends. Fulk reportedly started to swim across the lake when he got upset and submerged, according to reports.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement calling the occurrence “a tragic accident for the family, friends, and our community.”
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas has received Fulk’s body for an autopsy.
