Des Plaines resident Colette Smith, 31, was struck and killed on the Tri-State Tollway early on Saturday morning.
In the north suburban Glenview, the collision happened close to Central Road on Interstate 294.
Smith was discovered on the side of the road and was impacted by a FedEx truck and a white passenger car before 1 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Unfortunately, she passed away from her wounds.
The white passenger car left the scene of the collision, but police eventually tracked it down and detained the driver. The name of the driver has not yet been made public.
FedEx issued a statement offering their condolences and reassuring customers that they are completely cooperating with the authorities conducting the investigation.
The event is being looked into by Illinois State Police at the moment.
